Nedbank IMC
Conference 2025
The Boardroom Bridge
Turning Virtual Engagement into Measurable Sponsor ROI
When Nedbank began planning its 2025 Integrated Marketing Conference (IMC), they faced a challenge familiar to many hybrid-event organizers: how to engage thousands of senior marketers, CMOs, agency leaders, and industry influencers, both in the room and online, without compromising the intensity of the live event.
The IMCβs signature fast-paced, 15-minute βTed Talkβ-style sessions meant there was no room for technology hiccups or disengaged audiences. Sponsors, too, wanted proof that their investment translated into real engagement, not just passive viewing. And for the senior leaders attending, networking had to be purposeful and high-value.
Enter Participate Technologies and the EventMobi platform, which became the central hub for the virtual experience. Rather than treating the app as a secondary tool, it was positioned as the digital heartbeat of the event, a place where delegates could stream sessions, interact, access content, and connect with peers and sponsors in real time.
The approach was simple but powerful. Virtual delegates could watch the live stream while engaging through chat and private 1:1 messaging, push notifications ensured they never missed key updates, while a centralized content hub kept all session materials and sponsor information at their fingertips. Structured appointment booking allowed delegates to take control of their networking, ensuring every meeting was meaningful.
To transform passive viewers into active participants and provide measurable ROI for sponsors, the EventMobi gamification engine was deployed. Custom passcode challenges encouraged delegates to engage with sponsor content, whether embedded in session materials, live-stream overlays, or virtual exhibitor pages. By rewarding interaction, the gamification strategy converted curiosity into measurable action.
The results spoke volumes. Over 1,056 delegates logged in on event day, representing nearly half of the 3,448 total attendees. Most of these were virtual participants, demonstrating how a carefully tailored digital strategy could drive engagement across a dispersed audience. In total, delegates generated 47,397 pageviews, averaging 12 interactions per user, with gamification becoming the primary driver of measurable sponsor ROI.
The success of IMC 2025 shows that hybrid events do not have to compromise either engagement or business outcomes. By focusing on the virtual audience, structuring purposeful networking, and gamifying key interactions, Participate Technologies turned an event into a measurable engine of business value.
Key Takeaways:
Virtual delegates can be the primary focus for engagement, even in hybrid events. Gamification effectively drives measurable interactions with sponsors, structured networking empowers senior leaders to make purposeful connections, and centralized content ensures clarity, engagement, and focus
